What a managing partner does – transcript
Posted by: | CommentsThis blogpost is a transcript of the video interview by Fiona Boyd, co-author of Niche Content Millionaire and Phil Grant, Managing Partner at boutique accounting firm, Nexia ASR What a Managing Partner Does – Videopost.
Fiona: Good morning to Phil Grant, managing partner at Nexia ASR. Good morning to you, Phil.
Phil: Hi, Fiona, how you doing?
Fiona: I’m very well, thanks. Look, today I want to highlight some really good news of yours, because late last year you became the managing partner at Nexia ASR. Now this is something you should be much older for, right? You need to be 60 to be given that level of responsibility…
Phil: I’m younger than what I look!
Fiona: But here Phil is young and at the top of his game! So, I wanted to talk a bit about the accounting firm – it’s a professional services firm – how the partnership and managing partner role work? Because those of us who use your services may see this all as a bit mysterious, I suppose, and it’d be nice to actually get some insider knowledge here.
Phil: Ah, you want to know the secrets…
Fiona: I do.
10 Rules for great sandpit play
Posted by: | CommentsEvery business situation an entrepreneur finds themselves participating in is a microcosm of the wider world and it can be the small deals and collaborations that prove your worthiness or otherwise, to play in the bigger business sandpits.
In previous posts I’ve written cautioning about not getting too excited about starting a new project with someone you haven’t done work with before, but instead to take some time to work out whether they’re going to be a good sandpit player and whether you can work effectively together.
It can of course be a unique opportunity to work with a hand-picked team on a very special project, however, no matter how well-resourced and how groovy that project is, if some of the collaborators in the team have hidden agendas and aren’t able to fully bring themselves to the team, then the project is likely to be challenging, difficult and maybe even impossible to bring to completion. What I learned waiting for a train on platform 13 after the footie
Posted by: | CommentsMy theme for Into the Mountain for the last little while has been the notion of returning to childhood and kindergarten and examining what it takes to get on with other kids and to play well in the sandpit. The sandpit of course is an analogy to the whole of life and business, and lessons learned in the sandpit are hopefully ones that are enduring and universal and we can take with us wherever we go and whatever we do.
